Working a scenario in the Meteorology Intensive: TAF shows TEMPO 1820/1823 1/2SM +RA BR BKN004, and your ETA is 2130Z. How are you briefing the crew and documenting the release decision?

I am especially interested in how students distinguish TEMPO from BECMG when the company ops manual is silent on “treat TEMPO as prevailing.”

I treat TEMPO inside the ETA window as a condition that may exist—so I either file a legal alternate that remains above minima or plan a delay until the TEMPO ends. For the crew brief I call out the possible 1/2 SM and BKN004 explicitly.

Same approach. On the quiz (question 2) that was the expected answer. BECMG would mean I expect the new prevailing state after the change period; TEMPO is temporary fluctuation only.

Also worth noting company fuel policy—if you add holding for the TEMPO, make sure it does not eat into contingency without a documented reason.

Our airline’s FOM says to consider TEMPO for destination/alternate suitability when ETA ±30 minutes overlaps. That matches what Module 1 drills. Helpful thread—thanks Jordan.
